Welcome to the Department
of Geography and Geology at The University of Southern
Mississippi. From here you can learn more about our programs and
people. Our name has recently changed. In the summer of 2005, the
Mississippi Institutes of Higher Learning approved the merger of
Geography and Geology. The department now offers a variety of
options towards Baccalaureate and Master’s degrees in Geology and
Geography; as well as a newly approved doctoral program in
Geography. Our programs strive to meet the diverse needs of our
students. |

We are located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in the heart of the Pine
Belt and are about 70 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. In addition we also
have faculty and research staff at our Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach
and at Stennis Space Center. Our location provides students an ideal
setting for research, field work, and academic study. Hattiesburg is
listed as one of the top historically developed cities in Mississippi,
and Southern Miss is ranked as a Carnegie Foundation Research Intensive
University and Class 1 Southern Regional Educational Board
