The faculty of the Department of Geography and Geology at Southern Miss are proud to announce the hiring of Asim Yousafzai and Frank Heitmuller as Assistant Professors of Geology. Dr. Yousafzai earned a Ph.D. from Kent State and focuses upon hydrology, groundwater, and environmental geology; Dr. Heitmuller received a Ph.D. from The University of Texas and focuses upon geomorphology, sedimentology, and fluvial and coastal processes. |

We are located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in the heart of the Pine
Belt and are about 70 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. In addition we also
have faculty and research staff at our Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach
and at Stennis Space Center. Our location provides students an ideal
setting for research, field work, and academic study. Hattiesburg is
listed as one of the top historically developed cities in Mississippi,
and Southern Miss is ranked as a Carnegie Foundation Research Intensive
University and Class 1 Southern Regional Educational Board
